TUESDAY MORNING LEAGUE

Every Tuesday morning women members are invited to join us for Women’s Day. Tee times begin at 9:30am. This is a great opportunity for new members to meet other women golfers and long-time members to reconnect with friends.  Each person plays their own game and scores are not shared. Members sign up individually in the Pro Shop by Sunday at 12pm for golf the upcoming Tuesday. The Sports Captain will assign tee times with the intent of mixing up foursomes to give members the opportunity to play with as many different golfers as possible. Tuesday tee times will be posted on the tee sheet Monday afternoon.

Handicap Information

(Click here for the webpage HANDICAP INFORMATION)

What is a Handicap – a handicap represents the approximate number of strokes over par your score would be when you are playing a good game.  For example, if the course Par is 72 and on your good games you typically shoot 100 – then you would have a handicap of approximately 26 to 28.  Your handicap is determined by an average-based calculation, taken from the best eight out of the last 20 scores.  You need a minimum of 5 rounds of 18 holes to establish a handicap, and that handicap adjusts throughout the year based on the scores you enter, and it carries over to the start of the next golf season.  You do not need to re-establish a handicap every season.

What is a Handicap used for – the handicap is a way to level the playing field when you play a tournament or a league that considers net scores.  For example, if a golfer with a 10 handicap shoots an 85 – their net score would be 75 (Actual or gross score minus handicap strokes = net score).  If they are playing in a group with a golfer that has a handicap of 30 and that golfer shoots 100 – their net score would be 70 and they would have the better net score of the two golfers.

Everyone is required to have an established and up-to-date handicap listed in the Golf Canada Handicap system in order to play in the Spring Taw and the Frost Bite club events. These events involve prizes that have cash value; therefore, to be fair to everyone, the handicap rules must be applied.

Also related to handicaps, each year at the Women’s Fall Wind up, prizes are awarded to the top 3 people with the greatest handicap reduction.  The calculation is based on where people were at the start of the year to where they are at the end of the season.

Establishing and Maintaining a Handicap -- All members of SGCC are also members of Golf Canada.  Members use the Handicap system on the Golf Canada website.  They are the authorized national body responsible for administering the rules of handicapping in Canada using the World Handicap System (WHS).

To establish your handicap with the Golf Canada system, if you need assistance or have any questions please see Brennan or Sloane at the Pro Shop.  They will assist you with getting set up in the handicap system and in getting your handicap set up.  Then after each game you play – whether it is 9 holes or 18 holes, enter your score using any of the following options: i) through the SGCC website on your computer or smartphone, or  ii) by downloading the Golf Canada app to your smartphone; or iii) on the handicap computer located in the lobby area just outside the Pro Shop entrance.

Calculating Your Handicap Score - For Handicapping purposes only, there is a limit of Net Double Bogey (a double bogey is two strokes over par) as the maximum score for any hole.  When you are entering your score into the computer, you will need to look at each hole score and calculate the score as follows:  PAR + 2 strokes + Handicap strokes received for that hole.  NOTE: The easiest way to maintain your handicap is to use the “Post Hole by Hole” option.  The handicap system will then calculate your handicap score for you.  And a reminder that if you have any questions about how to review your score before entering it into the system, please see the pro shop staff for assistance.

There is a maximum Handicap Index of 54.0, regardless of gender, to encourage more golfers to measure and track their performance to increase their enjoyment of the game.
