The Couple’s Classic, presented by Arcon Services (Duane Panko), and Raymond James Financial (Brett Graham and Greg Beswick) is a 2:00 shotgun start on Sunday with 42 teams registered. The modified alternate shot format always makes for some great stories, as teams choose the best tee-shot and alternate shots to finish the hole.

Men’s Night next week is sponsored by Wiegers Financial (Michael Carss), Inland Truck & Equipment (Chris Wiens), and Braschuk Oil Services (Paul Braschuk)

Women’s Night next week is sponsored by Clubhouse Golf and the Bae Lab Beauty & Events.

Good Luck to the SGCC Team in next week's Senior Men's Challenge Cup versus Riverside. Captain Warren Proctor leads a team of 16 players including: Warren Proctor (Captain), John Wilby, Milt Grolla, David Bird, Claude Ouellet, Jim Gawluk, Dan Borys, Mike Whiteside, Peter MacLachlan, Dave Nielsen, Wes Ramsay, Pat Sommerville, Brian Humble, Dale Kelly, Rob Connoly, Jeff Dornan, and Chuck Hainsworth (non-playing Captain).

Flags were lowered earlier this week for the sudden passing of Dale Boothman at age 71. Dale was a member for 37 years from 1987 through 2024.

There were no holes-in-one this week...unless something happens today. For the record, we’ve had 10 so far this year which compares to 9 at this time last year. With in increase in rounds played, it seems we’re having another slow year in this regard.

Fun Fact: With timely rain this summer, Terry hasn’t watered the course at all in the past 3-weeks. Our water bill in July was the lowest in years, and at the same time he’s never seen the course this green.

Not So Fun Fact : The grass is growing like crazy out there! Until the weather changes, the rough will continue to be “a little healthier than usual" between cuts. We are using more mowers and cutting more frequently. The largest rough mower (Toro-red) is running 40 hours a week, with help from 2 smaller (John Deere-green) mowers cutting outside the primary rough. It takes 2.5 days to cut the whole course including the practice holes. By the time they cut it all…it’s time to start again. Another mower would be great, but the larger rough mower is the most expensive piece of equipment in our fleet. And at 40 hours/week, it has the highest operating cost in fuel and labour. If we had more years like this, another mower would be a good investment. But this year is unusual, and it’s probably just another week or two before it starts to change.

Have a Great Weekend.
