The Club Championship presented by Affinity Credit Union is this weekend with tee-times from 7am to 2pm each day. There are 124 players competing in age categories for Women, Men, Junior Girls and Junior Boys. Follow the action <HERE> on Golf Genius.
Congratulations to Ben Leier on his Hole-in-One Tuesday on Hole #6 and to Pat Sommervill on his Hole-in-One Thursday also on Hole #6.
The Couples Classic on Sunday August 16th is open for registration <HERE> on Golf Genius. It’s a two-player modified alternate shot format. Guests are welcome to participate as a spouse or partner. Enter as two or with a group. This is a highlight for SGCC couples and gets more popular every year. Team uniforms are common, and sometimes creative.
A Callaway Wedge and Odyssey Putter fit day is coming up on August 9th. Watch for more details next week.
Flags were lowered this week for the passing of Barry Bates on July 22nd. Barry was a member of the club for 55 years from 1966 through 2020 and served as SGCC Club President in 1970 & 1971. Barry was 91. This comes after flags were lowered two-weeks ago for Tom Sullivan who passed away on July 8th. Tom was a member of SGCC since 1977.
Summer Greens Aeration
Beginning Monday, Terry and his crew will start our annual summer greens aeration program.
Aeration is an essential maintenance practice that removes small plugs of material from the greens, allowing for improved air exchange, water drainage, and healthier root growth. While no golfer enjoys seeing freshly aerated greens, this process is critical to maintaining the long-term health and quality of our putting surfaces.
Monday:
- The front nine greens will be closed while the work is completed.
- The front nine will reopen later in the afternoon as soon as they are ready for play.
Tuesday:
- The back nine greens will be aerated and closed during the day.
- All 18 holes will reopen for play in time for the 4:30 p.m. Men’s Night shotgun start.
The lotteries for both Monday and Tuesday were completed on Thursday, and all tee times booked before 2:00 p.m. have been adjusted to nine-hole rounds.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while this important work is completed. With the warm summer weather, we expect the greens to recover quickly and continue providing excellent playing conditions for the remainder of the season.
